Architects appointed for plan to almost double the size of a Milton Keynes primary school

GSSArchitecture have had their Milton Keynes studio appointed as architects to work on a plan to double the size of a primary school in Milton Keynes.

The extension at Hanslope Primary School will see capacity increase from 270 to 480 pupils once complete.

Hanslope Primary is rated as an Outstanding school by Ofsted, and the plans are necessary in order to meet the growing need for school places for children in Milton Keynes.

Despite not being able to meet face to face due to the coronavirus, the project team from GSSArchitecture have still been working hard and collaborating effectively with local residents on the proposed plans.

The architects are now hoping to submit the planning application shortly after the findings of the public consultation have been reviewed.

As well as building expansion, works at the school will also include an all-weather sports pitch and an increased parking area.

The all-weather sports pitch will be located on a plot of land acquired as part of a Section 106 agreement adjacent to the existing school playing field.

Chris Chapman, Partner in charge of GSSArchitecture’s Milton Keynes office, commented “We’re delighted to have been appointed by R G Carter, to design the expansion of Hanslope Primary School, in order to provide additional school spaces needed in line with exciting new housing developments in the area."

"Hanslope Primary School has a great reputation, and it has been a pleasure to work closely with all of the project team, in order to ensure that we can deliver a building that will help to increase this reputation.”

Ken Woodhall, Commercial Manager at R G Carter, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to help deliver this exciting new project."

"The current unprecedented situation has made it more important than ever to work collectively, and we look forward to supporting Milton Keynes Council and all the partners involved in the project, to help deliver a facility which will have a positive impact on the community for many years to come.”
