American diner restaurant Wendy's set to open just an hour away from Milton Keynes

Wendy's, the American diner chain, will be making its UK comeback this year - with a restaurant just one hour away from Milton Keynes.

It is the third-largest burger chain in the world after McDonald's and Burger King, and has nearly 7,000 outlets in 30 countries across the globe.

Wendy's, which is known for its square burgers, previously came to the UK in the 1980s but decided to close all of its stores in 1999.

But we have some good news for fans of the pretzel bacon cheeseburger, as two UK-based branches will be opening in the first half of 2021.

The first branch will open in Reading followed by a second in Oxford - which is around an hour away from Milton Keynes.

A spokesperson for Wendy's said: "I can confirm that Wendy’s will be opening in the United Kingdom in the first half of this year.

"Our first location will be in Reading and I can also confirm that we will open a restaurant in Oxford.

"We are also exploring additional opportunities in the London area.

"The brand is excited to enter the UK with Company owned and operated restaurants this year, and we are looking for franchisees to grow with us across the UK."

The UK menu has not yet been revealed, but it is expected to have the fan-favourites including the Jalapeño Popper Sandwich, Bacon Double Stack, and the Pretzel Bacon Pub Chicken.
