The importance of getting your pet microchipped has been proven after one local moggy who went missing years ago has just been reunited with his owner.
Yesterday morning, the RSPCA were asked to scan a cat who had been visiting a local property.
Thankfully, he was microchipped and when the branch checked the details, they discovered the chip was registered to a missing pet and quickly contacted the registered owner, Tara.
She told the RSPCA that beloved pet Felix had been missing since 2019!
He had gone missing when the family moved home from Conniburrow to Emerson Valley.
The fmaily desperately searched for their missing fur-ball, and posted in online groups in a bid to find Felix, but aside from a sighting at their old house, they had no joy.
"After years of searching and waiting, the family had sadly lost hope of ever being reunited with him. You can imagine their shock and overwhelming joy when they received our call," said an RSPCA spokesperson.
"Tara came to collect Felix straight away, and what an emotional reunion it was. A truly magical early Christmas gift for this family. Felix is now safely home where he belongs and will be on strict house arrest well into the New Year," they added.
"Stories like this remind us just how vital microchipping is and that even after years apart, there is always hope.
"Never give up on your missing pets, and please make sure your cats are chipped and details kept up to date. This Christmas, one family has their boy back and that’s the greatest gift of all."
