80s Moo Weekender to support Willen Hospice this August

Willen Hospice is inviting local people to go back to the 80s this summer for their brand new Moo Weekender, sponsored by Specsavers MK on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 August.

The event combines the charity’s popular Midnight and Midday Moos and challenges fundraisers to walk or run 10 miles, or a shorter five-mile Half Moo, to support the vital care they provide for local people.

For the first time in its history, the Midnight Moo will start at Stadium MK at the earlier time of 10pm on the Friday. The Midday Moo will start at MK Rugby Club in Emerson Valley at 12noon on the Saturday.

To mark the Hospice’s 40th anniversary, organisers are encouraging people to channel their inner Madonna, Boy George, Jane Fonda or Timmy Mallett and don their best 80s gear for the event.

Tracey Jago, Events Manager at Willen Hospice, said: “We can’t wait to bring the retro party atmosphere to MK with our Moo Weekender! It offers a fantastic opportunity to come together with friends and family for possibly the first time in over a year. Not only will it be a super 80s-tastic night, everyone who takes part will be doing their bit to raise money to help us care for local people who are living with life-limiting illnesses or at the end of their lives.”

Organisers are asking those who take part to gather sponsorship for their Moo. This will make a huge difference to the Hospice, which has seen a 50% loss in fundraising income due to the cancellation of many events and activities during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Steve Moore, Director at headline sponsors Specsavers MK, added: “We are so pleased to be involved with the Moo for another year. The Hospice do an amazing job of supporting so many local patients and their families who are going through the hardest time of their lives. The Coronavirus has left a massive gap in their fundraising income this year. I really hope that lots of people will support them by taking part in either the Midnight or Midday events.”

Entry to the Moo Weekender is £20 for adults for one event, or £30 to do both the Midnight and Midday Moos (includes an exclusive t-shirt and finisher’s medal). Under 14s go free but must be accompanied by an adult.
