Six coronavirus related deaths recorded in Milton Keynes as cases rise across the UK

    It comes following reports of rising COVID-19 cases across the country.

    Today's data tells us that unfortunately, six coronavirus related deaths were recorded at Milton Keynes Hospital in the past 7 days (11th March- 17th.)

    It comes as rising coronavirus cases are being reported across the country this week.

    On Tuesday 15th March, Prof Tim Spector told Sky News: "We're seeing a real increase in the elderly getting COVID and I think that will start putting pressure on hospitals." 

    Sky reported that cases across the UK have spiked by nearly 50% over the last week. Health Secretary Sajid Javid said was "expected" following the easing of restrictions in England in late January. He told Sky News: "We keep the situation very carefully under review.

    "There's no other variant of concern out there that is an issue at this point in time.

    "We have seen some rises in infections over the last week, but given the increase in social mixing, this was to be expected."

    Travel rules have also been scrapped, with passenger locator forms and tests for arrivals from tomorrow (18/3).

    In the last 7 days, 534,747 cases have been recorded in the UK, with 2,209 of them being recorded locally in Milton Keynes. Currently, 99.9% of UK infections are said to be of the Omicron variant. 

    As of Tuesday 15th March, 81 coronavirus patients being cared for in MK Hospital, 0 are being treated on a ventilator.

    On Saturday, MKFM reported that patients were being urged to only attend Milton Keynes Hospital for emergency care, atfer they tweeted that they were 'extremely busy'.

    All coronavirus data is provided by the government and NHS, no further information is provided on age, gender or vaccination status, data on coronavirus deaths includes the number of people who died within 28 days of being identified as a COVID-19 case by a positive test.
