23 new cases recorded in Milton Keynes and reduction in death toll as Government changes way it records data

There were 23 new cases recorded today (16/6) and a change to the local death toll as the Government has changed the way it records data.

The Government has today (16/6) edited the way it records deaths per local authority, meaning that Milton Keynes' total number of virus-linked deaths has fallen by one.

As a result, the figures show that there have been 463 virus-linked deaths recorded in Milton Keynes since the start of the pandemic, which is less than yesterday's total of 464.

These edits have been made because the deceased had multiple addresses, and now the address noted at death registration takes precedence.

When looking at cases, there have been 20,727 positive tests since last year. 164 people have tested positive in the past week.

The 7-day case rate in Milton Keynes now stands at 65.7 cases per 100,000 people, which is below the national average of 72.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Nationally, there was an additional 9,055 people who tested positive today - the highest number of new cases since February. 9 deaths were also recorded within 28 days of a positive test - none of these took place in Milton Keynes.

The recent increase in cases has been put down to the highly transmissible Indian variant, which has resulted in the Government delaying the final easing of restrictions by four weeks, now due to take place on July 19th.

By doing this, the Government hopes it will be able to give one dose to every UK adult and give both doses to 2/3 of the adult population.

163,439 local people have had their first dose of the vaccine so far and 105,737 people are now fully vaccinated.

Over 21s can now book their vaccine appointment, and you can do so here
