£162,000 clean energy funding for Milton Keynes Hospital

The Labour Government has recently announced details of nearly 200 NHS sites set to benefit from funding delivered jointly alongside Great British Energy, with Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust receiving £162,000.

Callum Anderson MP, Chris Curtis MP, and Emily Darlington MP have welcomed £162,000 of Labour Government funding for clean power upgrades at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH), helping to cut energy bills and reinvest savings into frontline NHS services.

This funding builds on the work of Great British Energy’s solar for schools and hospitals programme and will mean less money wasted on energy bills in Milton Keynes and more resources directed back into patient care. It is estimated that clean power upgrades will save the NHS nearly £30 million a year on energy bills, with a number of military sites across the country also set to benefit.

This investment comes in addition to the new £500 million hospital planned for the city - a major project that will transform healthcare provision in Milton Keynes and North Buckinghamshire. Construction of the new hospital is expected to take place between 2027 and 2030, ensuring the city has modern, state-of-the-art facilities to meet the needs of its growing population.

Callum Anderson MP (Buckingham and Bletchley) said:
“Thanks to this significant investment by Great British Energy in Milton Keynes, the NHS will be able to divert money away from energy bills and into the heart of what it does best - supporting the dedicated frontline services that change lives every day”

Chris Curtis MP (Milton Keynes North) said:
“This funding shows Labour’s commitment to a cleaner, more efficient health service that works for everyone. Not only are we delivering a new hospital at MKUH, but we’re also delivering healthcare fit for the 21st century.”

Emily Darlington MP (Milton Keynes Central) said:
“I was proud to campaign on our manifesto which – quite rightly - placed a strong emphasis on reforming the NHS. It’s one of the things that we should be most proud of as a nation, but it can and should be run more efficiently.”

    Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said:

“We’re investing in clean power for the NHS so more money can go back into frontline services.

“This is our clean power mission in action – cutting bills, investing in our communities, and providing energy security for our country.”

Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting said:

“With lower bills for hospitals, better value for money, and a cleaner, more efficient NHS, everybody wins.

“Every penny of these savings will be redirected straight back into frontline care and delivering an NHS patients, staff and the whole country can be proud of again. This investment will help us build an NHS fit for the future.”
