142 illegal vapes seized from shops in Milton Keynes

142 illegal vapes and 49 illegal tobacco products were seized from shops in Milton Keynes.

Milton Keynes Trading Standards took to X, formally Twitter, to state that 142 illegal vapes and 49 illegal tobacco products have been seized from stores in the Bletchley area of Milton Keynes.

The Regulations, which cover single use e-cigarettes that contain nicotine and Refillable e-cigarettes, state that e-cigarettes / vapes can only have a tank size no greater than 2ml in capacity.

This 2ml capacity allows the device to provide approximately up to 600 puffs.

Anything which offers more than 600 puffs (e.g. 3500 puffs, 7000 puffs, 10,000 puffs) would have a tank size greater than 2ml and be illegal.

The packaging must also be labelled correctly with “This product contains Nicotine, which is an addictive substance” if the product contains nicotine.

Single use products must not have a strength greater than 20mg/ml and carry the appropriate safety warnings for the strength of the nicotine product.

Last year, it was announced by the government that new sanctions were coming into effect for people found selling illicit tobacco products.

The new powers could lead to penalties of up to £10,000 for any businesses found selling illegal products.
