10 Things in Milton Keynes that’ll put a smile on your face this Summer

As the school summer holidays begin, Destination MK has produced the perfect list to keep everybody busy and happy.

With many people missing their usual summer holidays this year, Destination MK are encouraging people to get out and about in Milton Keynes.

Below is Destination MK's 'Top 10 Things to Do this summer in and around MK':

    1. BRITAIN’S BEST KEPT SECRET

When we mention that Bletchley Park is in Milton Keynes, we’ve lost count of how many times people have said “We really should go there!”.  You’re absolutely right, you really should. Bletchley Park tells the story of the famous WWII codebreakers and how their tireless work helped to shorten the war and save countless lives. This fascinating heritage attraction lets you explore atmospheric codebreaking huts, wartime blocks and immersive exhibitions.

    1. PICNIC IN THE PARK

On a lovely summer’s day, there is really nothing better than enjoying a picnic in the park with friends and family. In Milton Keynes we are so fortunate to have an abundance of green spaces to relax in. Head to Campbell Park, Caldecotte Lake, Furzton Lake, Emberton Park just to name a few. Lay down a rug, pull up a chair, eat sausage rolls until you’re full and just drink in that fresh air. And don’t forget the World Picnic is in Campbell Park on Sunday 25th July.

    1. GET WET & COOL DOWN

Willen Lake’s brand new watersports centre is now a ‘must visit’ for all watersports enthusiasts but also for visitors who might like to just bob about in a pedalo. You can hire the lot from the centre; paddleboards to kayaks, try windsurfing and much more. Plus, the soon to open restaurant gives a cracking view of the lake! And Splash and Play is just a stone’s throw away.

    1. ‘IF’ YOU’RE LOOKING FOR CULTURE

You have to be quick as the IF: Milton Keynes International Festival ends on 30th July but you still have time to catch some of their magical free installations in and around the city centre. Check out the 7m diameter, internally lit, revolving Earth in Middleton Hall, or the mesmerising Breathing Room in Queen’s Court.

    1. FRIENDS FEST RETURNS

In August, every fan of the hugely popular ‘Friends’ US TV sitcom needs to be at FriendsFest 2021 which is coming to Willen Lake. Visit the original sets, have some unique TV experiences and even grab a coffee in Central Perk.

    1. INDOOR FUN THE WEATHER CAN’T SPOIL

We know that the British weather can be, let’s say, a little unpredictable…so sometimes an indoor back up plan is needed. Head to Safari MK for some soft play excitement, or maybe to Race Wars for some slot car racing fun. Milton Keynes Museum is another indoor family favourite with loads of hands-on interactive activities.

    1. PUBLIC ART FAMILY CHALLENGE

Did you know that Milton Keynes has over 230 pieces of public art? Why not challenge your family to find five pieces in a day...you could explore by bike, walk around Campbell Park or use the car or buses to venture a bit further out.

    1. NEED A FULL-ON ADRENALIN RUSH

Don’t get stuck in a summer holiday rut! There are plenty of ways in Milton Keynes to get the heart racing and the blood pumping for the ultimate adrenalin rush. Head to iFly inside Xscape and feel what it’s like to skydrive, take to the water and experience the thrill of wakeboarding at Willen lake, challenge yourself to hit the heights at Climb Quest or maybe take on the rollercoasters and rides at Gulliver’s Land. Have you got what it takes?

    1. LET BATTLE COMMENCE

Ever tried outdoor laser tag? At Urban Battlefields you compete as teams or individuals in different game scenarios to take your opponents down. Suitable for ages 8 to 80, it’s a real family activity and could get pretty competitive but it’s all done in a totally safe outdoor environment and lets everyone burn off some excess energy.

    1. SOMEWHERE DIFFERENT TO DINE?

We all love a meal out but this summer why not challenge yourself to try a new restaurant you’ve never been to before; it could be a chain restaurant or a local independent restaurant – you could ask your friends for recommendations but doing something different puts you out of your comfort zone and it could be the tastiest decision you ever make.
