MD Govier, a leading electrical engineering company, has successfully achieved its summer 2025 net zero targets, reinforcing its position as a sustainability leader in the industry.
Through a combination of electric vehicle adoption, solar and battery investment, and energy efficiency upgrades, the company is reducing carbon impact, cutting energy costs, and setting an example for clients and peers alike.
Fuelling the fleet with electric
As part of its transport decarbonisation plan, MD Govier has converted all company cars to 100% electric and installed a wall-mounted EV charger at its headquarters to power the fleet. Further plans are underway to introduce multiple pedestal chargers on-site once final estate permissions are secured.
The company has also begun the gradual transition of its van fleet, setting a target to ensure that 50% of its vehicles are electric by 2030. Recognising the current challenges of range limitations when vans are fully loaded, MD Govier is strategically deploying electric vans for shorter round trips of up to 100 miles.
Utilising the power of solar and battery storage
A major milestone in MD Govier’s sustainability journey has been the successful installation of solar panels and battery storage at its Milton Keynes headquarters. This investment has dramatically reduced reliance on the national grid, lowering energy bills by 41% YOY YTD and enabling the business to heat its premises using energy-efficient air conditioning powered by renewable electricity.
Innovating in energy efficiency
Alongside solar, MD Govier has implemented a series of efficiency upgrades across its HQ and continues to do so, including separating lighting circuits to isolate and switch off when not in use, and converting communal areas, offices, and workshops to PIR (motion-sensor) systems. Every employee has completed sustainability awareness training, ensuring the entire team plays an active role in delivering on the company’s net zero commitments.
Kelly Govier, Finance & Quality Director at MD Govier comments on their net zero commitment:
“Our commitment to net zero is not only about improving our own footprint, but also about showing clients what practical, cost-effective sustainability looks like in action. We’re already well advanced in tracking our Scope 3 carbon impact figures and remain committed to offsetting any surplus that is generated. Every decision we make is about creating a more sustainable future for our clients, our people, and our community.”
