Milton Keynes-based punk rocker wins £1500 Fresh Sounds bursary

A young punk musician from Milton Keynes has won this year’s Fresh Sounds Music Bursary.

Crafting bass heavy songs, BEX sings about her experiences in the world as a woman, emphasising the ongoing inequality in the world. Taking her inspiration from Vivienne Westwood and the punk movement of the late 1970s and early 80s, she loves being on stage, interacting with her fans and giving them a show they won’t forget.

Managed by The Stables, the Fresh Sounds bursary is worth £1,500 and will help BEX to develop her music career by investing in recording and releasing a physical ‘EP’ of new songs, along with marketing and promotion.

Graeme Surtees, Head of Learning and Participation at The Stables, commented: “BEX is already achieving great things as a ‘DIY’ artist coming out of Milton Keynes, but it is hard for a young musician in any genre to develop their career without any kind support. This award will help Bex reach new audiences in Milton Keynes and beyond and help her fly the flag for independent and DIY musicians from the city.

BEX said: “This bursary gives me the opportunity to share my work with new audiences who will relate to my songs. It’s fantastic to get this support from a local venue that I’ve got such great memories of going to as a younger musician.”

The Fresh Sounds bursary has been made possible with support from Milton Keynes Community Foundation and the Christopher Hopkinson Music Bursary fund.
