Buckingham Literary Festival returns

A Celebration of words, ideas, and inspiration.

The Buckingham Literary Festival is set to captivate audiences once again this weekend (13-15 June.) Held at The University of Buckingham’s picturesque riverside campusthis annual event promises a rich set of literary experiences, featuring a diverse lineup of more than 45 renowned authors, thought leaders, and entertainers.

    A Festival for All Ages:
The festival's programme is thoughtfully curated to offer something for everyone. Including:

    • Children's Events: Engaging storytelling sessions, interactive drawing workshops, and activities designed to inspire young minds.
    • Adult Sessions: A wide array of talks, discussions and workshops covering fiction, poetry, history, politics, science, art, crime and more, ensuring that every literary taste is catered to.

Household names joining the line up include Katie Piper OBE who will close the festival on June 26th by sharing insights from her latest work, Still Beautiful, discussing themes of resilience, beauty, and self-worth. Susie Dent, celebrated lexicographer and television personality, will delve into the fascinating world of words and language.

Over the eight years the festival has run in Buckingham, political writers have proven to be particularly popular, with a line-up of political heavyweights joining this year’s programme including Ukrainian author and commentator Andrey Kurkov and Sunday Times journalist Christina Lamb who will tackle the intersection of politics and the power of language.

Patrick Maguire and Gabriel Pogrund revisit the blistering and ruthless political campaign that got Labour into power. Ten years on, Tim Marshall revisits his phenomenal bestseller Prisoners of Geography with a deep dive into the current flashpoints defining our world.

Rafael Behr and Matthew Stadlen explore our age of fury and confusion as leaders come and go but politics stays divided and toxic — and suggest ways of staying engaged, rather than just enraged. Malcolm Rifkind offers insight into the current state of affairs based on his long and distinguished political career.

Festival organiser Vivienne Wordley said, “'We're delighted that so many brilliant authors and performers will be coming to Buckingham. Our aim is to celebrate words and ideas in all their myriad forms and to appeal to book-lovers of all ages and interests. We hope you will be inspired, informed - even provoked - but never bored.”

Vice Chancellor of The University of Buckingham James Tooley said, “We’re delighted once again to be the central hub for the literary festival and to welcome this stellar line up of writers to our university. Guests of all ages from near and far come to enjoy the festival, we’re pleased to host and share our campus with them.”
