Graphic artist and illustrator Polyp (Paul Fitzgerald) talks about his biography of Thomas Paine - pirate, exciseman, astronomer and radical thinker

Thomas Paine was a political theorist and radical thinker. Born in 1737, his writings sparked the American War of Independence and the French Revolution. As the author of "Common Sense" and "The Rights of Man", his thoughts and ideas still resonate today. Polyp charts Paine's life and ideas through the verbatim voices of the time, both friends and foes. The book is a wonderful graphic illustrated account of Paine's life and times.
