Build on techniques learned in the introductory course - learn to design and engrave on curved surfaces

This course is designed to build on techniques learned in the introductory course, participants will learn to design and engrave on curved surfaces while maintaining control of engraving tools.
You will learn how to:
Create your own wrap around design or select a select a suitable project to complete on a copper beakers (2 sizes of copper beakers will be available)
Transfer the design onto the beaker using plasticine and talc ready to engrave.
Hold the beaker firmly while engraving.
Keep control of the engraving tool on a curved surface.
Engraving on curved surfaces presents more challenges than flat surfaces, giving learners the skills to help with future projects, such as engraving the outside of a ring.
Dario Batzella is a professional engraver based in Edinburgh. He has created award-winning pieces and won the Goldsmiths’ Silver Award in Senior Engraving in 2019 and 2 bronze awards in 2023.
Dario studied many techniques including engraving at the Italian mint in Rome and is currently an expert hand engraver in Scotland.

Level: Intermediate – completion of engraving for beginners or similar is recommended (please contact Beccy if you are unsure)
Materials: Materials are included in the course fee (copper beakers – 1 x small and 1 x large)
