Local muslim group help hundreds of people in Milton Keynes on Christmas Day

A muslim group in Milton Keynes distributed more than 100 free gifts locally on Christmas Day.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) in collaboration with Marie Curie launched a unique campaign to deliver a free gift basket to anyone who was celebrating the festive period alone or going through a tough period.

More than 100 requests were received from Milton Keynes and AMYA volunteers spent weeks preparing for the occasion.

On Christmas Day, they mobilised volunteers that travelled several miles to personally hand-deliver the gift baskets to all the individuals nominated by their friends, family members, colleagues and neighbours.

Inside the gift basket was a selection of items such as chocolates, festive eateries, scented candles, a winter scarf, toys, stationary and a card. The contents of the gift basket were tailored depending on whether it was requested for a child or an adult.

Everyone that received the gift basket was extremely grateful and many sent personal messages to AMYA via email and social media expressing their appreciation and emotions.

The Regional Youth Leader of AMYA, Saeed Nazir said: "The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has said that every act of goodness is a charity."

"There is a real need to help those that are going through a difficult time so we decided to run a gift basket initiative this year in the hope that this will bring some joy to those who deserve it during this festive period."

"This has been a very challenging but equally rewarding experience and we hope that we can continue with similar initiatives in the future."

Anyone can still make a donation towards the gift baskets on their website mercy4mankind.org/festivegiftbasket.

Any surplus donations will go towards the groups charity partner, Marie Curie.
