Milton Keynes City Council continue Springfield House support for vulnerable young parents

Milton Keynes City Council is continuing a service that offers accommodation and support for vulnerable young parents with babies.

Springfield House provides a safe and stable environment where young people learn key life skills alongside parenting skills to help them move on to independence.

At any one time, the service supports up to 16 young mothers with babies aged under one year at the point of admission as well as pregnant young women due to give birth. Fathers can also be accommodated if required and partners are allowed to stay for at least part of the week where safe and appropriate.

Last month, a decision was made to award a new contract and invest more than £1.1million over five years.

Councillor Zoe Nolan, Cabinet Member for Children and Families said: "We know that the residents of Springfield House need this extra support including short-term accommodation which provides a safe space for their new family."

"This critical service promotes independence, prevents homelessness, and supports the health and wellbeing of both parent and child."
