Local youth football team donates sleeping bags to Milton Keynes homeless charity

Young football players in Milton Keynes have raised enough money to buy sleeping bags for The Bus Shelter MK.

The MK Wanderer's U11 Kestrels team were raising money for a new set of jackets to keep the team warm over the cold winter season. After exceeding their expectations, the players decided to use the extra money to help keep others warm.

With the extra funds raised, the team decided to buy five sleeping bags to be donated to The Bus Shelter MK.

The Bus Shelter MK is a local charity that works with homeless people to provide them with shelter, food, and support to gain independence and get their life back on track.

Using a converted double decker bus, the charity provides 24/7 shelter and support to guests that we have assessed and can assure are prepared and committed to turn their lives around.

Once accepted, the charity agrees a period of time that guests can stay and they then receive support in their search for accommodation, work, and medical care.

Coach Alex Toomer said: "I'm really proud of their Gesture and for them as a team to do this. They raised way beyond what we aimed to achieve for the new jackets and for them to help others makes me a really proud coach.

"We hope the 5 x Bags will help keep some others a little warmer this Christmas."
