MKFM Review: The Cher Show at Milton Keynes Theatre

Mrs. D what's to see? Mrs. D from the MK Breakfast Show returned to MK Theatre last night (09/08) to see The Cher Show and here is her review...

I was so excited when I heard that this show was coming to Milton Keynes Theatre. Although her career started before I was born, I grew up listening to her music and watching some of the movies she starred in. As she is referred to as the “Goddess of Pop” with so many well know hits, we were asked not to sing during the performance and leave it to them, which was understandable but so hard to do.

“If I Could Turn Back Time”…We were taken right back to before Cher was Cher.

The story was told through three different Chers, who all managed to find her special twang when speaking and singing. They sounded so like her. Cher’s story started with her as a child being bullied at school because she was different. Her name was Cherilyn, she learnt that she could find strength in music so she decided she wanted to sing and become a star. This part of her life was performed by Millie O’Connell and she was amazing, she took us through the Sonny and Cher stage covering great hits like ‘I Got You Babe’.

The story continued through to her second marriage where Danielle Steers picked up the performance of Cher and then onto the third stage of her story covering her last massive hit ‘Believe’ which was performed by Samantha Ivey who was a great understudy. All three Chers had fantastic voices and brought her story to life.

This production was directed by the fabulous Arlene Phillips and the choreography was done by Oti Mabuse, so as you can imagine with them behind the scenes the show was epic!

At the end they performed a medley with many of her hit songs and we were encouraged to take photos, sing, and dance. As with all great shows, they did one more song which was ‘Believe’ where everyone was on their feet dancing and singing. It definitely made me happy to finally be able to sing this great song at the top of my lungs (sorry to all those around me). It was such an amazing show and a good night was had by all.

This story spans so many decades so is great for people of different ages, maybe not the children as there was some bad language that would not be suitable.

The Cher story is at Milton Keynes Theatre until Saturday 13th August, a great night out with the girls, friends, or family.
