You're invited to The Great Get Together Iftaar

Trubys Garden Tea Room warmly invites everyone (Muslims and Non Muslims) to the Bring and Share Great Get Together Iftaar on Sunday 19th May - 7 PM at Campbell Park Cricket Pavilion.

This is the third Great Get Together Iftaar celebrating the opening of the fast during the blessed month of Ramadan to celebrate together all that makes us one community in Milton Keynes.

The Mayor of Milton Keynes along with the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire and Iain Stewart, MP for Milton Keynes South will open the evening programme which will include:

    • Quran recitations, talks, nasheeds and songs from our many faith communities
    • Activities for all the family including and Eid Card Design Competition (winning card will be printed with prize for the winner)

The Great Get Together Iftaar MK event started in 2017 as part of the nation-wide Great Get Together organised in honour of Jo Cox the murdered MP. The Iftaar is an Islamic tradition of breaking the fast at the end of the day during Ramadan. It was selected as the basis of our contribution because sharing food is a great way to bring communities together.

The intention is for more communities around Milton Keynes to be able to experience and observe the spirit of Ramadan alongside Muslims who can offer dialogue and illustrations of worship to better enhance understanding. The programme features acts and speakers who focus on the richness and similarities of religions, especially from a humanitarian perspective. The aim is to create a sense of belonging, remove feelings of doubt, alienation and isolation. Such opportunities provide an important tool for reducing resentment, which causes individuals to be open to enticement to commit acts of terror.

In recognition of the Sadaqa tradition (giving of charity in Islam) we will be accepting donations for the MK Food Bank and money towards an Eid gift for children in care, migrant families and those in hardship.

This event is brought to you by Trubys Garden Tea Room (Muslim Women in MK supporting interfaith dialogue) and supported with funding from MK Community Foundation, The Parks Trust, MK Council of Faiths, Interfaith MK and Gatehouse Bank along with support from an alliance of diverse faith and community groups including mosques, churches, local businesses.

Ian Revell Chief Executive of The Community Foundation said:

“We are thrilled to support this important event bringing communities together, supporting interfaith dialogue and understanding. It’s a fantastic evening that really celebrates the cultural diversity within Milton Keynes”
