You should shop at Milton Keynes supermarkets after 6pm, say council

People have been advised by Milton Keynes Council to visit supermarkets after 6pm to avoid the rush.

An announcement was made yesterday on social media, with the council putting it frankly: "Don't pick up something unwanted at the shops."

The infection rate in Milton Keynes is higher than the average area in the country, with the case rate being 807.5 cases per 100,000 people compared to 583.4 for the UK as a whole.

Although cases in the city seem to be dropping, hospital admissions and deaths continue - nine covid-linked deaths were announced yesterday.

To combat this, and to prevent further spread, Milton Keynes Council is advising people to avoid supermarkets during the day.

Busy periods vary from store to store, but generally, early morning or late evening is the best time to avoid crowds.

"Go supermarket shopping off peak - after 6pm weekdays, wear a mask and stay distant from others," a council spokesperson said.

But this approach has since been questioned by residents who say that this advice could turn the quiet hours into peak time.

One person said: "You should be saying spread out the times you go shopping to help limit gatherings in supermarkets not telling everyone to go after 6pm - if everyone followed that rule you would have mass gatherings happen!"
