Whole year group at Milton Keynes secondary school will learn remotely so preliminary exams can go ahead

It has been announced that Year 11 students at Denbigh School will remain at home until the end of the month so that preliminary exams can take place.

This comes as the school has seen a number of positive coronavirus cases recently, including two amongst Year 11 students.

Over 80 Year 11 pupils are currently self-isolating, which is approximately one third of the year group. These students will return to school before Professional Practice Exams (PPEs) start, with these exams being an important time in the school calendar as this is formal practice for next year's GCSEs.

But the school has said that if there are any more positive cases in Year 11, any students self-isolating would return after the start of the PPEs. This means it would affect the school's ability "to get all students through their PPEs in the best way possible" avoiding any disruption.

This is why the school has decided to ask all Year 11 students to remain at home until the exams start on Monday 30th November.

Teachers will conduct live lessons, and also provide class work and revision materials for students at home.

The letter, sent to parents yesterday, adds: "I must say that overall our year 11s have shown a maturity and work ethic so far this year which has impressed all of their teachers. I am sure that with the hard work of their teachers, your support and the commitment of the students we can make this work."
