Waste collection in select areas across Milton Keynes delayed until tomorrow morning

Some areas across Olney have had their waste collection dates pushed back due to a vehicle breakdown and a driver having to self-isolate.

Olney Ward Councillor, Keith McLean, took to social media to give local residents an update on the situation as he said: "We have just been informed that due to a vehicle breakdown and a driver having to self-isolate from today due to being near someone potentially with COVID-19 that collections will not be finished in Olney today.

"Apparently, around 600 properties on 18 streets remain uncollected. Some vehicles are still operating to collect bags but glass will not be collected for the remainder of the day. Serco has asked that anything not collected today is represented by 07:00 tomorrow.

"Hopefully, all will be good by the end of tomorrow and next week's collections will occur as scheduled."

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a number of delays to waste collection in Milton Keynes over the past few months. Serco, Milton Keynes Council's waste contractor, was recently left short-staffed after a number of positive COVID-19 tests within their workforce earlier this year.

When waste collections resumed as usual towards the end of March, delays were common for the first fortnight due to the high volume of waste that residents amassed during the course of the most recent lockdown.
