Two people searched and arrested after being found with knives in Milton Keynes

Officers continued their patrols around Milton Keynes estates this weekend and arrested two people after carrying out a stop and search.

Knife crime is on the rise in Milton Keynes, with police reporting a 0.5% increase in the past year.

There have been a number of fatal stabbings, most often involving young males, and the most recent took place on New Year's Day

Police are now actively working to target knife crime, and have increased the number of stop and searches that officers are conducting.

Last week it was announced that Thames Valley Police had been conducting targeted patrols on a number of estates.

The patrols are aimed to target violent crime, protect vulnerable people, support intelligence gathering and increase engagement opportunities.

During these patrols, 30 stop and searches were carried out and over the weekend these patrols continued.

Two individuals were searched and found in possession of knives.

Both were then arrested on suspicion of possession of bladed articles; one person was charged, while the other was released under investigation for a Youth Offending Team disposal/intervention.
