Two brothers reunited after 25 years thanks to help of Milton Keynes community

Two brothers have been reunited after 25 years, and it has been made possible thanks to the local community.

There is no doubt that social media is a powerful tool. It has the ability to connect people like never before, and that is exactly what happened with Rick and Stanley*.

The brothers lost contact around 25 years ago. Rick, who lives in North Wales, says he moved house multiple times in the 1990s and Stanley, who is still here in Milton Keynes, ended up moving around too.

These house moves, alongside the fact that Rick was a "private sort of person", led to the brothers drifting apart.

Years went by without any contact between the two, contact details were lost, and just last week Rick decided to ask for help to find his brother.

Speaking to MKFM, he said: "I thought recently it was time to try and re-establish contact before I get too old. I'm 72 now and none of us know how long we have left."

Rick took to a Milton Keynes Facebook group, which has nearly 17,000 members, and asked if anyone knew Stanley.

That same day someone commented on the post saying that they knew someone with his brother's name, and all of the details matched up.

The brothers were then put in contact and have, virtually, been reunited after 25 years apart.

Dozens of people have since commented on the original post, congratulating the brothers, and sharing their amazement at the power of social media.

One commenter said: "Absolutely brilliant [that] fb [is] bringing family together. This is what the internet was designed to do bring people together."
