Tuesday's Coronavirus Update: 28 new positive cases and one covid-linked death in Milton Keynes

There have been 28 new positive coronavirus cases and one new covid-linked death in the city today (10/11).

The total number of cases in the city has risen to 2,563 since the start of the pandemic.

And the total number of deaths linked to COVID-19 in Milton Keynes is 111.

The circumstances surrounding the most recent deaths, including age and whether they had underlying health conditions, have not been revealed.

Last week, it was announced that there were two people in intensive care, out of a total of 20 positive cases at Milton Keynes Hospital.

Dr Ian Reckless, the hospital trust’s medical director said: “So we’ve got some patients at the sick end again and we have seven or eight patients on ward two who are positive.

“The numbers of positives in the organisation is going up and the proportion of patients going through ward two who turn out to have a positive swab is going up.

“It feels though we are definitely on the up slope of this second wave.”

It has been reported that there are plans to send patients to either Papworth or Addenbrookes hospital if numbers do escalate.

Another 532 people with coronavirus have died across the UK in the latest 24-hour period - compared to 194 a day earlier, government figures show.

It is the highest number recorded since mid-May and brings the total number of deaths in the UK to 49,770.

Another 20,412 people have tested positive for the virus.

MKFM previously stopped reporting on coronavirus cases due to the lack of testing, and possible misrepresentation of cases within the community, but now that there are more tests available we have decided to provide frequent updates.

We provide the data given to us by Public Health England, and unfortunately this does not cover the number of people who have recovered/left hospital.
