Together we can create moments of joy for people living with dementia

Age UK Milton Keynes held a hugely enjoyable Nostalgic Fun Afternoon on Saturday 18th May to launch Dementia Action Week 2019 which runs from 20th to 26th May.

Age UK Milton Keynes is supporting Dementia Action Week by encouraging people to find out how they can make life with dementia a little easier, and how they can support loved ones living with the condition.  One in six people over 80 have dementia in the UK.  Using figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) it is estimated that over 2,000 people in Milton Keynes are living with dementia.

Janet Doran, Chief Executive of Age UK Milton Keynes says: “We all know someone affected by dementia, although we might not realise it.  By asking everyone to be more patient, be more understanding and don’t be scared of older relatives who have been diagnosed, we can all do our bit to make our community more ‘dementia friendly’.

“Family or friends with dementia are still the person you know and care for, and they will appreciate your kindness.”

Age UK Milton Keynes provides many services and practical support that improve life for older people with memory problems or a formal diagnosis of dementia.  Two clubs designed especially for people living in the borough of Milton Keynes with a diagnosis of dementia run every Monday and Friday afternoon at The Peartree Centre.
