Thousands of pounds raised for heartbroken family of man that was killed while trying to 'rescue' young boy in Milton Keynes

Thousands of pounds have been raised for the family of Richard Woodcock, who was killed while trying to 'rescue' a young boy from harm in Milton Keynes.

The 38-year-old father of two, who worked for Milton Keynes Council, died at his neighbour's property in Two Mile Ash on Saturday 26th June while trying to save a young child.

An inquest opening heard on Friday (2/7) that Richard Woodcock rushed to "rescue" a young child following a domestic dispute where a woman could be heard screaming for help.

Armed police officers quickly rushed to the Denmead-based apartment and discovered Richard Woodcock's body, alongside the child who had "serious injuries".

Another man, 24-year-old Kelvin Igweani, was inside the property and was said to have acted "aggressive" to the officers. He was tased but this proved ineffective.

Kelvin Igweani then proceeded to "barricade" himself in the main bedroom with the injured boy. Police said that the child's cries could be heard, as could sounds of an "ongoing assault".

The court heard that officers made their way into the bedroom and used the taser on Kelvin Igweani once more before an officer fired four gunshots. Kelvin Igweani died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The deceased 24-year-old is suspected of the murder of Richard Woodcock and the assault of the young boy, who has not been named.

Following the tragic incident, Richard Woodcock has been branded a hero by the local community, with tens of thousands of people sending their condolences to his family.

Joshua Farrell, who was Richard's best friend, has since launched a GoFundMe page for the 38-year-old's widowed wife and his two young children.

"There isn’t a moment that will go by that he won‘t be sorrowfully missed," Joshua said.

"Richard leaves behind a wife and two children. After speaking to his wife and gaining consent to set up this page, all funds will go to his family. 100% of the money from this page will go to them to help them in any way they need, whether it be for funeral costs or supporting them through this difficult time."

As of 14:00 on 5th July 2021, £3,625 has been raised from 165 kind-hearted donors.

One person who donated said: "A true friend, always there with a cuppa and a smile. All the food chats and laughs. Much love and sympathy to your wife and family."
