Police to 'start being visible' as a deterrent to speeding drivers in Milton Keynes

Commander for the Milton Keynes local policing area, Marc Tarbit, discussed speeding in Milton Keynes in an exclusive interview with MKFM.

Speaking on MKFM's listener Q&A broadcast, Marc Tarbit said: "Speeding is something we take seriously."

Tarbit told of how Thames Valley Police are working with communities to tackle speeding and often hear from local neighourhoods when they are concerned about speeding in their area.

He said: "There are local volunteers that use community speedwatch schemes to get a better sense of whats going on.

"If we do use speed enforcement, it's generally based on information that shows that's where issues are occurring, in that case again, we use local communities and volunteers to help own some of that responsibility for speeding."

Thames Valley Police also aim to start being visible as a deterrent to speeding drivers around the city.

TVP are supporting the National Police Chiefs Council Speeding Campaign which will be running until 8th August.

The Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit of Hampshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police officers will be carrying out enforcement across the force area, targeting drivers who make the choice to speed.

In 2019, there were 1,561 collisions where people were either killed or seriously injured across Hampshire and Thames Valley. Of those collisions, 191, around 12%, were recorded as having either excessive speed or travelling too fast for the conditions, as contributory factors.
