Supermarket soap stock plummets as coronavirus fears grow in Milton Keynes

Today's sight in the soap aisle at Asda in Bletchley

People have been panic buying items from shops across Milton Keynes leaving shelves empty, despite the Government's advice not to.

The soap display at Asda in Bletchley was left nearing empty this afternoon (4/3).

Residents could also be seen stacking up their trolleys with non-perishable foods including tinned potatoes, baked beans, and evaporated milk.

There was no sanitizer gel insight. Boots has also recently been forced to announce a two-bottle limit per customer due to the overwhelming demand.

Although residents of Milton Keynes are panic buying, Sir Patrick Vallance, the Government’s chief scientific adviser, has told people to remain calm. He said: "I think the advice is that there is absolutely no reason to be doing any panic buying of any sort or going out and keeping large supplies of things."

The Government has issued a public health campaign telling people to wash their hands frequently and thoroughly to prevent the spread of COVID-19. People have been told to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds and should use soap/hand sanitizer when getting into work or home, blowing their nose, sneezing, coughing or eating/handling food.
