Statement from Leader of Milton Keynes Council

Local elections will be postponed following the announcement from the government today.

Mr Marland released this statement  on the Postponement of local elections

“Postponing the local elections set for May 2020 until 2021 is the correct thing to do in the circumstances.

Over the coming weeks and months MK Council and our partners will be working to delay the spread of Covid 19, and then with the affects of the virus on our population.

As we prepare our services to cope with the pressures of a reduced number of workers and increased demand, it is only right that all our focus should be on tackling this crisis. MK Council colleagues are working flat out and not having to prepare elections in 2020 will help.

Experts are clear that we are currently in an upward trend on infection rates and it could be several weeks, or months, until a peak is reached. We need to delay infections so our services are able to help the most vulnerable when they need it. The coming period will be difficult, but we can all do our bit by following advice and taking simple measures to slow the spread of infection, and we will be working to ensure services are as prepared as we can be.

In this moment of uncertainty we can all play our part for our friends, our family and our neighbours.”

    Cllr Peter Marland
