Starships reports that Milton Keynes' children have been seen feeding robots

The company said children have been seen trying to feed the robots bananas.

But the co-founder of Starship Technologies, Ahti Heinla said: "Robots are not hungry for bananas really."

The company believes the feeding incidents have occurred because the robots have become such a normal part of life in Milton Keynes, with five separate incidents being reported.

This is a welcomed changed to previous reports of members of the public kicking robots back in 2018.

Starship Technologies hit the milestone of 1 million deliveries this month, with a 900% increase in deliveries between August 2019 to January 2021.

Prior to the increase, it took the company five years to hit 100,000 deliveries.

The explosion in popularity is thought to be down to the coronavirus pandemic, with customers being able to get their food shopping delivered completely contact free.

Starship plans to expand its services across more cities in the UK after the popularity in Milton Keynes.

Ahti Heinla added: "We have seen with the lockdowns in the UK when a lockdown happens our order numbers triple, but then when lockdown ends the order numbers don't go back to the same level.

"They drop a little bit, but not all that much.

"So people got used to the habit, they love our service."
