Six shoppers arrested for offences against shop staff in Milton Keynes

Six shoppers were arrested for various offences against shop staff throughout Milton Keynes in just 2 days.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) says the offences include causing harassment, alarm, distress, and assaults. Four members of shop staff were even spat at.

"We have noticed a slight increase in arrests of people abusing shop staff which is completely unacceptable," says a police spokesperson. "The staff are working hard and putting themselves at risk in order to ensure we are able to have a constant supply of essential food and goods.

"They should not have to put up with abuse from members of the public that are frustrated with the self-distancing guidance."

Between Thursday (26/3) and Saturday (28/3), TVP made six arrests. "We will seek the maximum punishments available for anyone abusing key workers during this pandemic," the spokesperson added.

Thames Valley Police has reiterated the importance of staying up to date on current guidance.

    • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)
    • If you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times
    • Wash your hands as soon as you get home
    • Do not meet others, even friends or family. You can spread the virus even if you don't have symptoms.
