Shoppers return to Central Milton Keynes with incredibly large queues for Primark

Shoppers made their way into Central Milton Keynes this morning (12/4) to mark the return of non-essential retail, with big queues outside the fan-favourite store Primark.

April 12th marks the further easing of lockdown restrictions, meaning that hundreds of businesses - including non-essential retail - can reopen.

People have been counting down the days to have a post-lockdown haircut, a pint of beer at the pub, or buy some new clothes from their favourite store.

MKFM visited the centre:mk and intu Milton Keynes this morning, shortly after the stores reopened, to see what the initial response was like.

It was relatively quiet at around 9:15am but started to get busier by the minute. Most stores were as busy as a regular non-covid weekend day, apart from the most popular stores such as Primark, Apple, and TK Maxx.

The queues for Apple, located within intu, were organised so that people waited outside the front of the store, with any further queues being directed outside the former Topshop building.

Primark, at the centre:mk, had controlled the crowds so that shoppers queued outside the building. Primark fans, which were stood in masks and following social distancing, stretched all the way from the top of the Milton Keynes Market, down and round to Braids Barbers near John Lewis - which is around a third of the shopping centre.
