Send ‘Letters to Loved Ones’ over festive period encourages Milton Keynes University Hospital

Letters to Loved Ones service is available in the run up to the festive period, offering a way to stay connected with inpatients when a personal visit is not possible.

The service, which operates all year round, allows relatives, friends and carers to send messages to patients by completing an online form.

Messages are printed by hospital staff and delivered directly to the ward, ensuring that every patient can receive a special note of encouragement and support.

There are a number of different letter themes to choose from, including a Christmas option, and MKUH staff will read messages to patients who are unable to do so themselves.

“The festive season can be a particularly difficult time to be in hospital, and we always see an increase in requests for letters around now,” says Kate Jarman, Chief Corporate Services Officer at MKUH. “Some people cannot visit loved ones in person, often because of their own health and mobility or because they live overseas. Letters To Loved Ones provides a simple and heartfelt way for patients to feel remembered, and for their families and friends to provide love, support and encouragement when they can’t be there by the bedside.

“We regularly receive requests from all over the world, including countries such as Canada and France, and our Patient Experience team sees it as a real honour to be able to deliver messages which bring so much happiness and comfort to our patients.”

To send your letter, visit: Letters to Loved Ones at MKUH - Milton Keynes University Hospital. MKUH aims to deliver letters within 24 hours of receipt and the cut-off date for delivery on Christmas Eve is midnight on 23 December 2025.
