Screaming Success at MyMiltonKeynes Spooky Screenings

MyMiltonKeynes is proud to have raised more than £9,500 for MK Food Bank and entertained 1,886 car-loads of family and friends at its drive-in MyCinema, jointly funded by Milton Keynes Council, this Halloween Half-Term.

From 26 October to 1 November, the car park next to The Point was transformed into a drive-in cinema, showing 11 classic Halloween-themed films to a total audience of approximately 9,430 (based on 5 people per car).

With limited opportunities to provide fun for all of the family, due to the ongoing restrictions and safety concerns surrounding Covid-19, MyMiltonKeynes were excited to be able to provide this new drive-in cinema experience, and to raise much needed funds to support MK Food Bank.

Not only did MyMiltonKeynes provide a great cinema experience at an affordable ticket price, it also worked with some of the Business Improvement District (BID) members to create a selection of offers at bars, restaurants and retailers, providing additional value to cinema-goers and supporting footfall in Central Milton Keynes.

The event received lots of very positive feedback, including this review from Laura Miller, author of multi award-winning blog, Milton Keynes Kids: “We had a brilliant time at the Spooky drive-in cinema at The Point in Milton Keynes this morning watching Hotel Transylvania. Having pooh-poohed the idea of drive-in cinemas previously I've definitely changed my mind as long as it's affordable.

“We were given a leaflet with offers on and we went to the Lego shop in intu Milton Keynes and my 7 year old got a FREE Lego Mario. We had to show proof of booking the cinema too. Bargain. We'd definitely do it again if MyMiltonKeynes did festive films in December.”

Cllr Emily Darlington commented: “We’re delighted that the drive-in cinema was a success and are proud to have sponsored the event. Well done MyMiltonKeynes for delivering a fun-filled way for households to enjoy films together and raise money for MK Food Bank, who are doing a vital job to support vulnerable residents.”

Melanie Beck, Chief Executive at MyMiltonKeynes explains: “We have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from those who came along to our Halloween MyCinema screenings, and would like to say a special thanks to those who showed us their appreciation at the end of our final screening. A crowd of cars tooted their horns and flashed their lights in a thank you and farewell, which was an emotional and uplifting way to finish a very busy and successful week.

“We have had many requests for a Christmas cinema and hope to be able to announce some festive MyCinema Drive-In screenings soon.”
