Runners from Milton Keynes take part in dawn marathon for charity

PwC directors Chris Ward and Gethin Evans from Milton Keynes have completed a ‘before work’ marathon around Milton Keynes starting at 4am this morning (21/06) for Fleur Charity.

This special dawn marathon was organised to raise funds for Keech Hospice Care and commemorate their colleague Lucy Tobutt’s sister, Fleur Tobutt, who sadly died just months before her third birthday from an extremely rare and life limiting condition, progeria - a condition which makes a child age rapidly.

Fleur was the youngest child to ever be diagnosed in the world with this illness and she touched many in her short life. The public response to Fleur was extraordinary, an ITV documentary was made about Fleur’s life which was watched by 4 million people on the night it aired and it was also broadcast in 14 countries. Fleur also made appearances on GMTV and This Morning, and her story has also featured in many national publications.

This charity marathon was designed to mark the year of Fleur's 21st birthday.

During and after Fleur's short life, Fleur and her family received phenomenal care from Keech Hospice Care in Luton. The hospice provides a service to children and their families across Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

Lucy Tobutt, PwC tax associate said:

“I’m extremely grateful for the efforts my colleagues Gethin Evans and Chris Ward have shown to mark my sister’s life, in the year that would have been her 21st birthday. My family and I will always be grateful for the care and support they provided us with and it will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Sam Taylor, PwC Senior Partner for Milton Keynes said:

“We are all incredibly proud of what Gethin and Chris have undertaken and their efforts, and the support they have received from those in the office highlights the tremendous community spirit that exists in PwC Milton Keynes.  It is for a tremendous cause and made all the more special because of the impact that the Keech Hospice has had on Lucy and her family.”
