Road closed in Milton Keynes due to 'large number of vehicles' attending coronavirus test centre

Milton Keynes Council have announced an emergency road closure in Milton Keynes due to a 'large number of vehicles' attending the new coronavirus drive through test centre.

Officials have closed a section of Avebury Boulevard in response to the large demand for the drive through test centre, which opened last weekend.

Anyone who is or has a family member who is a key worker can now book tests online via the GOV.UK website, although spikes in demand have seen the site only open for certain amounts of time each day.

The government classifies key workers as those working in jobs such as teachers, government employees and delivery drivers.

Previously, only some key workers with symptoms - such as NHS workers, social care staff, and emergency services - and their families had been allowed to be tested.

Milton Keynes Council say the road closure will be in place for 'up to 21 days' and the alternative route is via Grafton Gate, Midsummer Boulevard and Witan Gate.

The test centre is located on the car park opposite the old Toys R Us unit on Grafton Street.
