River cruiser destroyed by fire in Milton Keynes canal

At 7:50am yesterday morning (14/05), local firefighters raced to extinguish a riverboat that had been badly damaged by a fire on the Grand Union Canal in Waterside.

Attending the scene from Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service was one appliance and crew from Broughton, as well as one from West Ashland.

The specialised Water Rescue Unit from Newport Pagnell and one officer also attended.

The responding firefighters used a main jet, a hose reel and two sets of breathing apparatus to make the site safe.

Due to suffering the adverse effects of breathing in copious amounts of smoke, firefighters issued one woman with oxygen.

The extent of her injuries is unknown and it is not currently reported that anyone else was injured during this incident.

The river cruiser itself was described as "destroyed", while other neighbouring boats in the area were also checked for signs of further fire/smoke damage.
