Yesterday evening, fire crews were called to a house in Fishermead following reports of a bedroom fire.

Two appliances and crews from West Ashland attended the scene at around 6:15pm and used one hose reel, two sets of breathing apparatus, a ladder and a fan to put out the blaze.

Crews also checked the roof spaces of adjacent terraced houses for any potential damage.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a candle, and now people are being reminded of the importance of fire safety when using them.

Every single day, two accidental dwelling fires are started by candles.

"It is important to remember that a candle is not just a decorative feature, says Bucks Fire. "Left unattended, an open flame scenting your home could leave a trail of devastation."

People have been advised by the fire authority not to leave groups of candles close together, ensuring that there are always 10cm between each one. Candles shouldn't be burnt near to curtains or drapes, and they should not be left unattended.
