Primary School in Milton Keynes confirms case of COVID-19 after staff member tests positive

Moorland Primary School in Beanhill is the latest known school to have a case of the virus after a staff member has tested positive.

In a letter dated 5th October, Headteacher Angela Garner states that a staff member "who is not class based" tested positive on Friday (2/10).

It also confirms that the affected person has not been in school since last Monday (28/9) and that no children have been in contact with the adult.

The few staff members who have come into contact with the affected person are now self-isolating, and the school has reassured parents that they are continuing to monitor the situation by working closely with Public Health England.

The news comes following yesterday's announcement that The Radcliffe School in Wolverton confirmed a case of COVID-19 within the Sixth Form meaning that all Sixth Form pupils must self-isolate for two weeks.

Both schools, Moorland Primary School and The Radcliffe School, currently remain open to all other pupils.

It is not known exactly how many schools have confirmed cases of the virus but MKFM is aware of at least 16 within the local area.

The Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Andrew Geary, has since praised schools for how they have dealt with the current climate. He said: "Whilst clearly concerning for parents, it should be noted that the vast majority of schools are continuing in the new normal and I’d personally like to commend the teaching and administrative staff, especially heads and deputy heads for the way in which they have adapted to be able to educate our young people in such testing circumstances."
