Poundland customers buy nearly 500 chocolate boxes for MK Hospital Staff in just 5 hours

Hundreds of customers at Poundland in Rooksley bought a box of chocolates for staff at Milton Keynes Hospital to say thank you for all their hard work.

On Thursday (19/3), Poundland staff asked customers if they would like to spend £1 to buy some chocolate for the workers at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

Michael Dickinson, Store Manager, wanted to do something to give back. "Customers weren’t buying these chocolates as other items were more in demand," said Michael. "I overheard a dad say shall we get a box of these for auntie as she’s been at work all night, I asked him where she worked, he told me she was a nurse."

For Michael, this sparked an idea. The Poundland staff then all agreed and got to work selling as many boxes as they could.

Customers purchased 450 boxes of chocolates in just five hours, and later on that evening the Poundland staff delivered them.

"We took the chocolates to the hospital and they were so very grateful. One nurse had just finished her shift and was planning to scoff the whole box in the bath when she got home," Michael added.

"The whole thing was uplifting for my team who are working so hard at the moment and seeing the public’s response was so rewarding it makes you realise people really care.

"I can’t put into words how proud of my team I am at the moment and how every day they’re doing their jobs with their heads held high."
