Milton Keynes residents warned following scam police calls

Thames Valley Police tell the public to pause and think after two Newton Longville residents were duped by 'fake' police officers.

In both the incidents, which happened this week, large sums of money were handed over to the offenders.

During these calls, the victims believed they were calling the police control room to verify the validity of the offender's claim.

However, the offenders had never hung up, meaning the victims were either speaking to them or an accomplice.

There have been reports of similarly incidences across the country, including in neighbouring Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, and the offenders often target elderly and vulnerable residents.

The Police have reminded the public that a police officer or staff will never ask you to handover cash or your bank cards.

There have also asked that if the public are concerned about the validity of a phone call from the police to call 101 and to speak to the Police Force the police officer or staff claims to work for.

Any police officer or staff will be happy to let you do this, and 101 operators will be happy to check also.

They also remind the public that all police officers and staff have unique warrant cards and will also happily show them when asked.

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of this scam or similar, can contact Action Fraud or the Police.
