Police statement following reports of suicide linked to online game

Thames Valley Police has issued a statement following reports that there have been a number of suicides in our area linked to an online game.

The force have made clear that it has not received any reports of suicide linked to the game which is reportedly called ‘The Blue Whale Challenge’.

In a statement, the Police have said it is unclear where these reports began.

They are however urging anyone who has any concerns about the welfare of friends or family to contact 101 or in an emergency 999.

According to the BBC, The Blue Whale Challenge is an online 'game' in which participants are thought to be set tasks over 50 days and the last "challenge" is for the person to take their own life.

The creator of the game Philipp Budeikin, age 21, is currently being held at Kresty Prison in St Petersburg for charges of inciting at least 16 teenage girls to kill themselves by taking part in his "game".
