Thames Valley Police responds to social media rumours of multiple 'attempted abductions' in Milton Keynes

Thames Valley Police has responded to rumours circulating on social media that there has been a string of 'attempted abductions' in Milton Keynes.

This follows the news that officers were investigating a single report of a suspicious person approaching an 11-year-old girl in Bletchley last week (16/9).

Following a full and thorough investigation including speaking with all involved, reviewing CCTV and conducting enquiries in the local area, officers are satisfied that no offences have taken place in relation to this incident.

And now they have spoken out following rumours circulating on social media that a string of 'attempted abductions' has taken place in the local area.

They have since clarified that there have been "no further reports of any such offences or incidents".

Bedfordshire Police have investigated reports of a similar nature that were made to them and their conclusion is that these were isolated incidents and that there is nothing to suggest that they are linked to, or part of, a particular pattern of offending, as has been suggested on social media. They are also satisfied that, in the vast majority of the reports, no criminal offence had taken place.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: "All reports of crime and particularly those involving the safety of children are taken very seriously in Milton Keynes and whilst our investigative work is not always visible, we would like to reassure you that all lines of enquiry are acted on."

They continued: "We will always investigate offences which are reported to us in order to establish the circumstances and to protect the public from harm. We will treat all of these reports with the professionalism and compassion that you expect from us."

If you have any information or have not yet made a report to police then please do so using TVP's online reporting form http://orlo.uk/Bjr0Y or by calling 101.
