This comes as a Metropolitan police officer was tragically shot by a handcuffed suspect in the line of duty on Friday (25/9).

Custody Officer Sgt Matt Ratana, age 54, was shot by Louis De Zoysa, age 23, inside a custody centre in South London in the early hours of Friday morning.

After fatally shooting the long-standing officer, the suspect then was believed to have shot himself and now remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Tributes have since been pouring in for Sgt Ratana, with the Prime Minister sharing a video message on Twitter discussing the "terrible killing" and paying his respects to all other "brave men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty".

Police forces across the country have been observing a minute's silence in memory of Sgt Ratana, including the MK Custody Team from Thames Valley Police.

Yesterday (28/9), they shared an image of social media telling of the minute's silence. The caption reads: "It is a very dark day when we lose one of our family. Many of our officers and staff have been hit hard by these exceptionally sad circumstances.

"Our thoughts are with Sergeant Ratana's family, friends and our colleagues in the Metropolitan Police."
