Police arrest HGV driver for drug use following a serious road collision near Milton Keynes

    Two HGV's collided on the M1 Southbound near Newport Pagnell in the early hours of this morning (20/4), with one driver having cannabis in their system.

    The incident took place on the M1 Southbound between Newport Pagnell Service Station and J14 (Milton Keynes).

    Highways England stated that two HGV's had collided, with one HGV being left stranded and on fire. Local residents had reported hearing three loud bangs and seeing thick plumes of smoke.

    One of the drivers was arrested at the scene after a positive drug wipe showed they had cannabis in their system.

    Fire crews from Newport Pagnell, Broughton and Great Holm attended the scene and put the blaze out.

    Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue has said that one man was injured.

    The M1 Southbound between Newport Pagnell Service Station and J14 (Milton Keynes) has since reopened.
