People aged 50 and over can now book their COVID-19 vaccine in Milton Keynes

The next priority group, over 50s, is now being called forward to book their coronavirus vaccination.

This comes just one day after MKFM reported the move could be happening "within days" due to a large surge in supply of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

It looks like the NHS is also ahead of its vaccination targets, as the number of jabs administered is likely to top 4 million this week - nearly double what is usually achieved in a single week.

Therefore due to the increase in supply, and rapid acceleration of jabs being administered, the NHS can call forward any resident over the age of 50 to book their vaccination.

In addition, people of any age who are at high risk of coronavirus (group 4 - clinically extremely vulnerable) or have a condition that puts them at higher risk (group 6 - clinically vulnerable) can also book.

And it's also open to anyone in Milton Keynes who is an eligible frontline health or social care worker, has a learning disability or is a main carer for someone at high risk from coronavirus.

The NHS is in the process of contacting eligible residents by letter and is also trialling a text message service that includes a link to the booking website.

However, if you are eligible, there is no need to wait for the letter or text message to arrive and you can book your appointment online now.

The vaccination rollout is well underway in Milton Keynes, as it was announced on Thursday (11/3) that over 83,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered in the city so far.

This means that around one in three people in Milton Keynes has had at their jab.

When looking at the older population, 86.5% of residents aged 60-years-old and over have had at least one dose - this equates to 46,649 people.

4,695 of these individuals that are over the age of 60 are now fully vaccinated against the virus.
