Open University in Milton Keynes to become vaccination centre with capacity to vaccinate 500 people daily

A building within the Open University is set to become an official NHS vaccination centre from tomorrow (16/3) onwards.

This vaccination centre will become the new premises for the Rainbow Pharmacy vaccination centre, taking over from their current operation in Bletchley.

It will initially run from 8am until 8pm four days a week will be capable of a seven day a week service should it be required.

Dorian Holloway, Director of Estates at The Open University said: “The Open University are proud to have the opportunity to support the Milton Keynes community through delivering the Vaccine at the Walton Hall Campus.

"This is a great achievement with teams from the NHS, Rainbow Pharmacy and The Open University working together at short notice to set up the Vaccination centre. We are thrilled to be part of the roadmap towards beating this virus.”

Ashok Tosar, Vaccine Centre Lead, Rainbow Pharmacy, added: “We want to express sincere appreciation for the support and enthusiasm of the OU team in delivering this project. This gives us a huge amount of reassurance and confidence that jointly we will be able to deliver an exemplary service from the OU site.”

The hub will have eight purpose-built vaccination pods, a large car park and disabled parking spaces directly outside the building. It will be staffed by NHS staff and local volunteers and will operate until December 2021 in line with the national rollout plan.
