Number of coronavirus patients at Milton Keynes Hospital more than doubles in five days

The number of coronavirus patients that have been admitted to Milton Keynes University Hospital has more than doubled in the past five days, it can be revealed.

Professor Joe Harrison, Chief Executive of MKUH, shared the news yesterday during an interview with BBC Look East.

Earlier this week, MKFM published an article that stated on Tuesday (10/11) 19 covid patients were being treated at the hospital.

It was then announced by the Leader of Milton Keynes Council that patients were being admitted to the hospital daily for the virus.

And as of yesterday, the number of patients that had been confirmed positive had risen to 47.

This comes as yesterday the UK saw the largest daily increase in coronavirus cases on record, with 33,470 cases being recorded in one day. Although this number is high, there may be a slight delay in cases being recorded suggesting that the true rolling average may be around 22,000 daily.

Milton Keynes saw 89 new cases yesterday, which spiked compared to the day before (78).

Currently, data regarding the number of people recovering from the virus and/or leaving hospital is not being released by Public Health England. But yesterday, during BBC Look East, one journalist said after speaking to multiple hospitals in the area that the severity of the illness appears to be "lower" compared to the first wave. He also added that there are "less people on ventilators" in hospital.
