Next Beauty & Home store to close in Milton Keynes shopping centre

It has been confirmed that Next Beauty & Home is set to leave the shopping centre in Milton Keynes to make way for an 'exciting' new retail and leisure offering.

Midsummer Place has today issued the following statement on social media: “Today, we can confirm that Next Beauty & Home will be leaving the centre to make way for our second phase of centre developments, that will see this space repurposed for an exciting new retail and leisure offering, details of which will be revealed in due course. We are sorry to see Next Beauty & Home leave and we wish the team all the best for the future.

“Our first phase of the development has seen the progressive refurbishment of The Boulevard, which has delivered a stylish new food court that is near completion, and we are now gradually opening each new independent street-food operator. We will also welcome Tortilla to the scheme next month. This phased approach will continue to see dramatic changes to the centre and bring a vibrant new feel to Midsummer Place. Further details will be announced soon.”

    The store opened in 2020.

The news comes as Midsummer Place currently undergoes a huge makeover. Work is currently taking place to bring a new food court to the shopping centre.

Earlier this year, MKFM reported that plans for a brand new bowling alley had been given the green light. Milton Keynes City Council granted permission on Monday (20 March) for a new bowling alley with a bar and dining facility to be built on the lower floor of the Next Beauty & Home unit in Midsummer Place, Milton Keynes.

The application requested planning permission for the change of use of basement from retail to a bowling alley and leisure/recreation use with associated bar and dining facilities.

The unit is currently occupied by Next Beauty & Home but since the closure of Debenhams, the basement of the unit has remained empty with the new Next department store only taking up one of the three floors.

In the application, the shopping centre said they believed the plans would help secure its"long-term viability".
